1306 – Our Door Project

In the week from 27/5/2012 to 06/02/2013 , OUR DOOR project by ECO Vietnam Group ( EVG ) collaborated with the Paya Lebar Methodist Girls School , Singapore took place in Phuong Thinh commune , Cao Lanh district , Dong Thap province , OUR DOOR is a project aimed at helping and improving the lives of local people in Phuong Thinh .

In just 7 short days, nearly 70 volunteers actively perform many diverse activities such as teaching , building toilets , flagstone paths , visiting the poor , cultural night organized cultural exchange By the his enthusiasm , the volunteers have brought joy to the children and partly to share the difficulties of the people here through practical work .

Another interesting point of the project is English class of volunteers . The class attracted the local students . With lively teaching methods and friendly , the classes were enthusiastic children . The teaching session was short but had laid many beautiful feelings between the volunteers and the children , the tears of parting day linger .

Also in OUR DOOR this project, the volunteers were spread over 1km stone for the children’s travelling to school  easier during the rainy season. Understanding the significance of this activity, the militia he, locals have tools to help support the volunteers performed better job.

 

In addition, the enthusiastic volunteers also participate in building toilets for poor households in the commune Phuong Thinh. Although inexperienced but mentally rolling his discharge was helping girls overcome the Methodist PayaLebar initial surprise and complete 1 toilet last working day at Thinh Phuong.

Saying goodbye, what remains on the shoulders of volunteers no longer just a backpack, but it is the crystallization beautiful, valuable lessons come from the journey Phuong Thinh, friendship and memories of their will not be forgotten.

1305 – Green Clinic Project

Place: Gia Bac, Lam Dong

Members: 10 Students of NUS Medicine School

From 23.05.2013 until 06.01.2013 , GREEN CLINIC project by ECO Vietnam Group ( EVG ) in collaboration with Team Operation Medicine from NUS Yong Loo Yin School of Medicine , Singapore took place in an atmosphere rich warmth of love and compassion . Held in Gia Bac , Di Linh district , Lam Dong province is a project to help improve the health and life of the local people here .

In just 5 short days , the spirit of youthful enthusiasm and thirst for building , community development , 16 volunteers ( volunteers ) come from Vietnam and Singapore with the support of six Vietnamese doctors South , they have done a lot of work meaning for people ‘s lives Gia Bac . These include the typical activities in this project such as stations and dispensing free medical examination , carried out a home visit to each household as well as advocacy survey and measure blood pressure check and people visiting households poor .17

Right from the first moment arrived in Ho Chi Minh City , the volunteers were quickly carried out the purchase of medicines and medical supplies needed to prepare for the examination in Gia Bac station .

       

 

In the first day at Gia Bac , the volunteers and doctors have started right away with examination work at the station and found free medicines to the people . Only 3 exams , but more than 760 people had blood pressure measured , examined and medicines , in the laudable efforts of the group . This is an opportunity for volunteers to be close to the original people , to understand , to create sympathy where people and create more favorable conditions in the later survey date .

End the job search at the station, the volunteers conducted Vietnam and Singapore trips to visit each household living in 5 villages and advocacy, guidance, sending information leaflets on health care and proper hygiene. At the same time blood pressure measured every survey people and get information, bandaged the wound healing skin if any.

 

Besides, the volunteers also visited the households in disadvantaged areas. The trip was not only small help bring physical and spiritual families, but it also makes each of you have the opportunity to volunteer and learn more close to Gia Bac.

1304 – Healthcare Campaign Project

Project Healthcare Campaign was a cooperation project between EVG and the two high schools: SMU and NTU Singapore. Within 10 days at Gia Bac public library, 22 Singaporean volunteers and 4 Vietnamese volunteers contributed greatly to the community here, helping improve the living standard of the locals, especially health problem.

 

One of the most outstanding missions that the volunteers of Healthcare campaign project accomplished was to building toilets for the locals

As for teaching task, the volunteers already taught 2 classes at Gia Bac primary schools: 5A1 and 5A2.

The volunteers also distributed 180 water filter machines to poor families at Gia Bac47

 

We successfully organized a cultural exchange night in the presence of more than 100 students along with teachers and local authority.

 

Leaving Gia Bac after 10 days, what still remained was wonderful memories they would never forget. Returning to HCM city, they had a chance to relax and visit many tourist attractions such as: Ben Thanh market, War Remnants museum, the tunnels of Cu Chi.

They said goodbye to Vietnam on one rainy day. Healthcare campaign came to an end with many beautiful memories, with the friendships had just formed. But the journey to help Gia Bac was still on its way. We are young, free and enthusiastic, we still keep on going and grow up. We hope to see each other again, at Gia Bac, on one sunny day.   IMG_6007

1302 – Spring Sprout Project

So Spring Sprout Project in An Hiep Commune , Ba Tri District , Ben Tre Province has entered the implementation of the first day . Maybe with any project , unfamiliarity , and new difficulty is the inevitable . And Spring Sprout is not an exception. Fortunately . in this work the first day , everything went pretty smoothly.

As for construction, today you have embarked on land fill to flatten the pitch . However, this is a job that requires a lot of time and energy of people and will significantly affect the progress of the project . So everyone decided to rent a bulldozer tomorrow can embark on concrete yard .

As for teaching , the school was opened exciting fun game with H2O – a kind of cat-and- mouse game of Vietnam – volunteers from Singapore with the support of the volunteers VN . Thanks to this attractive activities that the pupils of four layers 1 and 2 of primary school Year 1 1 An agreement was feeling less shy when initially exposed to the ” teacher ” new to mingle into the game , as well as later periods . During school hours , the English alphabet are inherently monotonic , this vividly conveyed to them through the song ” ABC ” and the connection works as recognizing letters and words .

As for housework and cooking , the volunteers did not seem to encounter any difficulties with the enthusiastic support from her school principal . The bearing deep dish delicious Vietnam were volunteers Singapore enthusiastic ” response ” .

 

Hopefully, the next day would be the day enthusiastic , playful ; more experiences and memories for everyone .

1301 – Book Flight Project

IMG_5232Held by EVG and SAJC’s alumni, the main purpose of this project is that to study and spread out “Service Learning” s spirit to the youth.

The drainage system had been built for the library, the English and hygiene curriculums had been held for children, the Gia Bac’ s daily life report had been given by interviewing to local people and the geographic map of Gia Bac had been made as well …These are being some of related activities according to above mentioned project.

catsThe most outstanding activity was the English class for Gia Bac s children with all teachers are young volunteers from Singapore and Vietnam. The children had been familiarized with English alphabet and numbering table, it sounds very simply but both teachers and students had to work engrossed and studious together. To make the lessons to be more interesting and easier to remember, the “teachers” had organized lots of related activities such as to sing and dance about alphabet and numeric table ,using body language to describe alphabet , doing exercised games… After overcoming the language and culture barriers, teacher and student have had an unforgettable time together.

oijWe cannot neglect to mention the cleaning toilet curriculum in one primary school , the Singapore volunteers had finished their job excellently.

1207 – Bee Steady Project

From 11/24/2012 to 7/12/2012, ECO Vietnam Group (EVG) successfully collaborated with the Saint ‘Andrew Junior College (SAJC), Singapore in implementing projects Bee Steady  at Gia Bac Commune, Di Linh District,  Lam Dong Province. In just two short weeks, with the wholeheartedness and the desire to dedicate youth to community, nearly 30 volunteers (VLT) come from Vietnam and Singapore helped people in the underprivileged highlands. Through those activities, they could accumulate a lot of experience for themselves.

On the morning of 24/11, the Vietnamese volunteers met and got acquainted with the Singaporean volunteers in an atmosphere of fun and friendliness.

Carrying out this project, the volunteers had to habituate themselves to a lot of difficulties and strenuousness of a builder like bellying bricks, mixing cement, bricking … In spite of the first moments when they were still like a fish out of water, all volunteers worked very hard  and did not afraid of the serve weather conditions to complete ECO Love House.

Also in that series of activities, the volunteers had the opportunity to get closer to the children of the poor Gia Bac through a variety of activities such as teaching to widen children’s knowledge here or holding the event at the Library to give the children a chance to play together.

Summing up the trip, with the heart of youth and the enthusiasm for dedicating to the community, the volunteers left Gia Bac the work doing with the affection. Although those contributions were small, it has took part in building and developing sustainably this area.

Although everybody parted the Gia Bac highlands, they will never forget the beautiful crystallization from friendship, from the memories having in this trip. The time in Gia Bac is short but what the volunteers did will forever exist in Gia Bac. Someone said that “Time is not measured by the period that you live but by the experience that you went through.” So please come and enrich your time with EVG!

 

 

 

 

 

1206 – Crayon Project

From 17/11 to 29/112012, ECO Vietnam Group (EVG) School was in collaboration with Singapore’s Nanyang Girl’s High School to implement the project “Crayon” at  Phuong Thinh commune, Cao Lanh district, Dong Thap province. This trip has brought the community the  support by many practical and meaningful works, which lead to the a better life of the resident in this area.

On 11.17.2012, the reception and meet was in the friendly atmosphere, between Vietnamese and Singaporean volunteers at Tan Son Nhat airport.

On the morning of 18/11/2012, the volunteers had a cordial exchange with the students of Dong Thap University before starting this project at Phuong Thinh.

When the project started, with hearts filled with passion, enthusiasm, the volunteers worked very hard. In spite of  facing with the severe weather’s condition or doing the hard work such as leveling of the road, scattered rocks, mixed lake, build a house …, the volunteers did not flinch, give up.

Besides paving stones serving the vehicles and building ECO Love House, the volunteers also planted the trees, taught English to students in elementary school … It was just little things but it was the motivation for the children go to school here.

During this trip, the volunteers visited and gave 3 gifts for the poor in the village. That make the poor believe and hope for a better life, besides, volunteers also understood and sympathized with the one who have an unfortunate life.

In addition to the hours of hard working, the volunteers accumulated for themselves experience, knowledge and mutual understanding, how to work with each other in the team from the exchange.

“Crayon” in the spirit of “Going to serve, go to school and go to change” even if was just only for a 2 week period, but what you had done volunteer will forever etched in Phuong Thinh people’s mind. This trip was really shot but it leave in volunteers the memorable values, experiences, lessons for the rest of their life.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

1205 – UP Project

In a short period of time from 17/7/2012 to 1/8/2012, ECO Vietnam Group (EVG) was having the privilege to cooperate with OVE Welfare Service Club from Nanyang Technology University (NTU) – Singapore. We worked together to run the community project – UP in Tan Quoi commune, Thanh Binh, Dong Thap District, HCMC Vietnam. With only 2 weeks in hand, but having enthusiastic spirits, hard-working and tireless determinations, our volunteers from EVG and NTU had successfully brought genuine benefits and made major improvements to the life of the people in Phuong Thinh Commune. This project is definitely one of the most memorable journeys in their lives.

Early morning 17/7/2012, the volunteers from EVG met the volunteers from NTU for the first time in a delightful and friendly atmosphere. All was looking for the journey ahead them with much joys and eagerness.

In project UP, the biggest mission and also challenge for the volunteers was building a school yard. Even though there was many obstacles and problems along way since they were all new to the job but with the enthusiasm to serve the community and the eagerness to learn new knowledge, the volunteers did become more and more like professional workers. More than that, under a very harsh weather condition with the burning sun, our young volunteers still maintained their determinations to serve and develop a better life in Phuong Thinh. They always did their best, they were ready to conquer new challenges and they did everything with much love for the community they served.

On the other hand, the volunteers not only built the school yard but also taught English to children in the commune. They shared that every time they saw the smiles and the efforts to learn in the children from this poor region, they were even more motivated to teach and help their students to learn more and more.

Moreover, the volunteers also used their precious time in Phuong Thinh effectively to every second. Beside from all the hard works, they organized game activities for the children in order to give them a fun and delightful experience that Phuong Thinh’s children rarely have a change to enjoy.  To the volunteers, the laughter from all these kids was the medication for their tiresome, which motivated them to continue their hard works.

In addition, EVG and NTU also volunteers visited many poor households in the commune. This activity helped them to have a clear look at the poor life in Phuong Thinh; it also made them understand deeply about the people in this commune. Vice versa, the people in Phuong Thinh were giving the hope and belief that there is someone that care for their life condition and willing to offer help anytime.

Before closing the project in Phuong Thinh, our volunteers had organized a Culture Exchange Night, in which, they sang and danced together by the fire. They played with the children and people in Phuong Thinh and they became closer than ever to each other and to Phuong Thinh’s people as well.

 

 

1106 – R.E.A.D Project

By the end of the month 11, when project “Step up” had just ended, but other projects have also started, EVG go on with the journey of meaningful projects!

In the past week, from 27.11 to 2.12 Gia Bac was pleased to welcome Vietnamese students and the Saint Andrew’s Junior College (SAJC) – Singapore and the Singapore Management University (SMU) on project READ, Gia Bac, Di Linh district, Lam Dong. Our project’s objective is to build native libraries for students in Gia Bac to improve education , enabling them to enhance their knowledge. This is also the beginning of the project construction plan “community center” for GiaBac long term support.

P1110736Frist activity was to visit and learn about the area they would work in the coming days.

On the next working day, these volunteers knitted bamboo doors for libraries; building walls from local soil. With the goal to be environment friendly, preserve ethnic culture, the material for  library construction were taken from Giabac nature (bamboo, local red-soil mixed with a binder).

gb2011_1Knitting not only requires technical level, thoroughness and ingenious, but it also takes too much time. On the first time everything was completely new, but the problems encountered errors, mechanical errors motifs remake to be removed, or injured by sharp bamboo but in a day when they’re done properly a sample bamboo just as guidance. It contributes to retaining cultural of ethnic K’Ho, Gia Bac

gb2011_2Also in recent days, with the program “House for Hope”, in order to separate the kitchen from the main house, ensuring health and safety in cooking, these volunteers would have to work together very seriously hard to catch up and complete kitchen.
